What kinds of services do you provide?
eMi Canada provides non-profit consultancy and design services in architecture and engineering for development projects. This can range from recommendations or advice to detailed construction documents. The typical service is the publication of conceptual design to construction documents which are used for planning, fundraising, and ultimately construction purposes. The exact range will be determined through discussion between eMi Canada and the ministry applying for the service.
Do you fund building projects?
No. eMi Canada does not fund projects nor act as a funding agent. eMi Canada provides design services to approved development projects, giving you the tools you need to fundraise, share the vision of your project, and eventually proceed to construction.
What is the length of the project application process?
There are three project cycles per year focused around Jan-Feb, May-June and Sep-Oct. Applications for each cycle are due 5 months before the proposed travel date for each project team. eMi Canada approves and schedules projects in a queue system as applications arrive and are approved, and as ministries are fully prepared to receive this service.
How long does a project take?
Teams are typically scheduled to be at the ministry site for one full week of investigation and work, finished off with a final presentation to the ministry. Once the project trip takes place, completing and publishing conceptual design or construction documents takes 3 to 6 months. Smaller projects may be completed more quickly than this. More complex projects may take longer or require more than one project team to design multiple phases.
How much is this going to cost us?
Engineering Ministries International doesn't charge any fees for the design services we offer. There are, however, some costs associated with having an eMi project team come to serve your ministry. We ask that our client ministries provide hospitality (basic meals, simple lodging and in-country transportation) for the design team (usually 6-10 people) while they are on site (7-10 days). We also ask that you donate the cost of the team leader airfare from our Canada office in Calgary to the project site. In addition, we ask that you consider underwriting all or a portion of the $8,000 project administration cost if you have means to do so, or to consider tithing 1.5 - 2 % of your capital fundraising back to eMi after we provide you with a full design package and fundraising materials.
What is the value of the design services we receive?
Our organization spends approximately $8,000 in overhead to conduct each project. This investment allows us to mobilize on average $80,000 worth of design services for your ministry.
What do you require from us?
The Pre-Application Form allows us to begin considering your project for approval, and is followed by a full Project Application Package. These applications describe more fully the terms and conditions of receiving eMi Canada design service.
